At Orchard View Primary Academy, we want every child to succeed in their learning and feel happy, safe and valued. Our vision, “Together We Learn, Together We Succeed,” reflects our commitment to an academy community where children are supported to achieve and encouraged to grow in confidence and independence.

For us, inclusion means understanding each child, recognising their strengths and responding to anything that may make learning or participation more difficult. We have high expectations for all children and recognise that they may need different approaches and support to reach their potential.

Knowing Our Children

Every child brings their own experiences, interests and talents to Orchard View. Taking time to get to know our pupils helps us understand how they learn, what motivates them and where they may need additional support.

We listen to children and work with their families to build a fuller picture of their needs. We recognise that these needs can change over time, so we keep support under review and respond as children develop or their circumstances change.

Achieving Through Learning

Inclusive teaching is at the heart of our approach. We aim to make lessons accessible, engaging and appropriately challenging so that every child can build knowledge, develop skills and experience success.

Our approach includes:

• Clear explanations, modelling and opportunities to practise.

• Adaptations to teaching, resources and the learning environment.

• Regular checks on understanding to identify next steps.

• Additional support where children need help to secure their learning.

• Further challenge to deepen understanding and develop individual strengths.

Achievement takes many forms. Alongside academic progress, we value improvements in communication, independence, confidence and the ability to work with others.

Supporting Additional Needs

Some children need support beyond what is usually provided in the classroom. This may relate to their learning, communication, physical or sensory needs, or social and emotional development.

Our approach to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) involves identifying needs, agreeing appropriate support and reviewing whether it is making a difference. Teachers work with our Inclusion Lead, families and, where appropriate, external professionals.

We want families to understand the support their child receives and to be involved in decisions about their learning and development.

Thriving Through Wellbeing and Relationships

Children’s wellbeing matters. Feeling secure, understood and connected to others helps them engage with learning and manage the challenges of academy life.

Through positive relationships, clear routines and our PRIDE values: Partnership, Respect, Integrity, Determination and Excellence, we help children develop friendships, express their feelings and seek help when they need it.

When a child finds something difficult, we seek to understand what is happening and work together to identify a helpful response.

Valuing Languages, Cultures and Experiences

Our community is enriched by the different languages, cultures, beliefs and family experiences our children bring. We want pupils to see themselves reflected in academy life and to learn about others with curiosity and respect.

For children learning English as an Additional Language (EAL), we support the development of English alongside access to learning. We value children’s home languages and recognise the knowledge and skills they already have.

Taking Part in Academy Life

Inclusion extends beyond the classroom. We want every child to have opportunities to enjoy friendships, trips, clubs, celebrations and wider academy experiences.

We consider barriers to participation and work with families to explore appropriate support and adjustments. Our aim is for children to feel involved, discover new interests and contribute to their community.

Working Together with Families

Parents and carers know their children best. Your insight helps us understand what is working well and where further support may be needed.
