Year 1
In Year 1 at Orchard View Primary Academy, we provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is valued, supported and encouraged to thrive.
Year 1 marks an exciting and significant milestone as children transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage into the National Curriculum. We are committed to ensuring this move is smooth and supportive by implementing a blended curriculum approach that bridges both frameworks.
The Autumn term begins with practical hands-on learning, collaborative group activities, and teacher-guided sessions. As the year progresses and the children build independence, confidence, and resilience, we gradually introduce whole-class learning whilst continuing to provide support and scaffolding within the lessons.
Our Year 1 curriculum is deeply rooted in the values that reflect life across our academy. Children learn to develop partnership through collaborative work with others, demonstrate respect and kindness in their interactions, show integrity by making thoughtful and positive choices, navigate challenges with determination and resilience, and consistently strive for excellence in every aspect of academy life.
We acknowledge the importance of positive relationships and strive to build these with every child in the classroom, as well as fostering a strong home/school partnership, as "Together we Learn, Together we Succeed."
